Home Learning at Millbrook Park

At Millbrook Park CE Primary School, we believe that home learning should reinforce and extend the learning that takes place in the classroom. Our carefully designed approach focuses on helping children build fluency, strengthen long term memory and develop the confidence to become independent learners. Home learning is purposeful, manageable and designed to support families without creating unnecessary pressure.

What does home learning include?

Our weekly home learning focuses on the essential knowledge and skills that have the greatest impact on children's success in school:

• Reading – Daily reading to develop fluency, vocabulary and comprehension.

• Spellings – Weekly practice linked to year group expectations and spelling patterns.

• Maths Fluency – Regular practice of key number facts and mental calculation strategies.

• Grammar and Writing – Short activities that reinforce grammar, punctuation and sentence construction taught in class.

• Half Termly Curriculum Projects – Creative enquiry based tasks that encourage curiosity, research and family discussion.

Working Together

We know that children make the greatest progress when school and home work in partnership. Parents and carers play an important role by encouraging regular reading, practising key facts, discussing learning and celebrating effort and perseverance. Together, we help every child develop the confidence, resilience and independence needed to flourish both in school and beyond.
