Science Vision

At Millbrook Park, our Science Vision encourages all children to take a keen interest in the world around them, developing their natural curiosity by making links with knowledge and skills developed in the classroom, to the outside world. We believe that every child should build their ‘Science Capital’ through a range of experiences in and outside the classroom, making learning more relevant to their future aspirations.

Principles:

Pupils ask questions

Pupils speak like scientists, using scientific vocabulary

Pupils use different types of enquiries to help them answer questions

Pupils understand how their learning in science is linked to other subjects and the wider world

Pupils have a desire to carry on science investigations outside of school

INTENT FOR SCIENCE CURRICULUM

  • For all our children to build up a body of key scientific foundational knowledge and concepts,
  • For all Millbrook Park children to develop an understanding of the nature, processes and methods of science through different types of scientific enquiries that help them to answer scientific questions about the world around them.
  • To become proficient at using different types of scientific skills such as: asking questions; making predictions; setting up tests; observing and measuring; recording data; interpreting and communicating results and evaluating.
  • To ensure that scientific enquiry skills are embedded in each topic and that these topics are revisited and developed throughout EYFS, KS1 and KS2 to deepen understanding.
  • For all children to know that science is vital to future prosperity by equipping them with the scientific knowledge required to recognise the uses and implications of science, today and for the future.
  • For all children to develop excitement and curiosity about science by discovering scientific concepts through observing phenomena and conducting enquiries for themselves.
  • To add to the children’s deepening knowledge about the 10 Millbrook concepts in order to become well educated citizens.
